The story of Cloudmont Ski & Golf Resort began in the early 1970s when the adventure-seeking folks at Cloudmont began incorporating "advanced snow-making equipment and professional instruction" to transform their 800 acres into a winter wonderland. They carved out a ski hill on Lookout Mountain, with pony lifts and snow-making capabilities. Cloudmont is the only place in Alabama you can ski. While most of the time the snow is manufactured, it does provide a great way to spend a day. Cloudmont is also much less expensive than larger resorts so it is a great place to learn to ski and to try out skiing for the first time without a huge investment.
